LINES FOR LOUIS!

Louis is a Year 3 at our school and he has Type 1 Diabetes.

He has to monitor his insulin levels often and throughout the day and be medicated as needed. Louis now has the opportunity to have a pump that would do all of this for him and make life much easier. Unfortunately the cost for the pump alone is $10,000 and then an ongoing cost of $300 per month and there is no government subsidy....

Royal Oak Primary wants to support the fundraising project for Louis to enable him
to have the freedom of other children at our school.

Mrs Bruce has therefore organised a mufti day for Friday 3rd June called 'Lines for Louis'. Please come to school wearing lines, checks or stripes and bring a donation to help the fundraising.

Photography Pure Day

Our topic this term is 'Express Yourself'. To immerse ourselves in this topic we have had four days during which we purely did arts-based activities! Room 21, 23, 26 and 29 had the opportunity to experience photography. On our photography day we took photos that expressed what we like and we manipulated our images using a variety of special effects in Picasa (a free photo editing programme). We then tiled our effective images using Publisher. Enjoy the media clip of Room 21's finished collages.

Room 29 have been busy learning how to create a Power point Presentation. We have started off by creating a power point about ourselves so we can learn how to create slides, insert pictures and hyperlinks, add tags and make our icons move, play with the timing and transitions, change the background, colours, text style and appearance and for some of us add sound.
This is a work in progress and we hope to upload some to the blog to share with you what we have created so far. So watch this space ...

We have also had a busy week across the Senior Team with Sports Exchanges on Tuesday. We had alot of our sports teams travelling and we had some great success in our games. The sun also came out for the afternoon so everyone had a smile on their faces and a positive attitude. Keep an eye on the Sports Blog for information about next weeks games.

We have been having an amazing time 'Expressing ourselves" for our inquiry unit this term. Once a week since the start of term we have moved around the senior classrooms for a full day to experience different ways of expressing ourselves through the arts. We have explored the following areas - Drama, Dance, Visual Art, Photography and Maori, Myths, Games and Pastimes. Next week we will be experiencing the next exciting installment of our "Express Yourself" Unit with the arrival of Rock Van to ROPS!!! Wow we are so excited about the fact we will be given the opportunity to be part of a Rock band and even get to perform in a live concert on the 10th June at Onehunga High school. We will get the chance to play 3 different instruments then focus on learning one for our practices. Some of us will be chosen as the lead singers for our band. Each class will perform a different song and can't wait to impress you all with our talents. So get ready to hear and see some singing into hair brushes while we practise in front of the mirror at home :)

Bye for now from Miss Quigley and Room 29 :)

Room 22 Assembly...EXTENDED!!!

Recently our class created and performed the assembly that the school will never forget!

The class came up the idea of a TV Show that included:

- Couch Potatoes
- Room 22's Got Talent - French horn (Aregee999) & The Dance Crew Girls
- Super Scientists
- Bunny News
- Talent Judges
- Anzac Reporters
- Fabulous Hosts

Our show was spectacular!!!!

Then.........3 armed robbers, robbed the ASB not far from school and the police insisted we LOCKDOWN!!!! Never before seen scenes of armed police came into our school to protect us.

Trapped inside a hall....without food....without play....without water....we sung, read stories, watched youtube and tried to laugh a lot.

Then we were released to our parents/caregivers with relief on all our faces!!

Check out the news report.
